Not Sure What Size You Need?

Undersizing leaves the cabin warm and oversizing makes the unit short cycle, so it never pulls the humidity out. Before you buy, read our marine air conditioner sizing guide, which walks through the BTU formula with a worked example. If you would rather not do the math, send us your cabin dimensions and we will size it for you.

Marine Air Conditioning FAQ

Why is my marine air conditioner not cooling?
The most common causes are seawater flow problems, a clogged strainer or intake, a failed pump, a dirty coil, or low refrigerant. We check the water side first, because it is the cheapest fix and the most frequent culprit, before assuming the compressor is at fault.
How many BTUs do I need for my cabin?
It depends on cabin volume, insulation, window area and how much sun the boat takes. Our sizing guide walks through the formula with an example, and we are happy to size it for you if you send the cabin dimensions.
What is the difference between a self contained unit and a split system?
A self contained unit puts the compressor, condenser and evaporator in one box, which is simpler to install and common on smaller boats. A split system separates the evaporator from the condensing unit, which makes it quieter in the cabin and easier to fit where space is tight.
Do you install a unit I bought somewhere else?
Yes. Tell us the make, model and BTU rating and we will quote the installation. Buying the unit and the installation together is usually the better deal, and it keeps one company responsible for the result.
How often should a marine air conditioner be serviced?
In South Florida, once a year at minimum, plus a strainer check through the season. Salt and marine growth restrict the seawater side long before the unit fails outright, so most breakdowns we see were preventable.
